As the weather gets cooler and autumn is in the air, it's the perfect time to entertain alfresco style! What better way to do that than savoring some delicious wine and cheese with family and friends in the open air. Recently Amy and I decided to have a some-what impromptu wine gathering but still wanted it to feel special, warm, and inviting. Here is how we set the mood, and even score my Favorite Italian Soup Recipe.

To elevate the feel we went ahead and provided place settings. This was for a small group so we were able to create a more intimate table setting we used these cute woven placemats from Target, then layered a set of Stoneware dishes that I've had for years. My stoneware dishes came from Crate and Barrel circa 2014, but they are no longer available. I have provided a similar alternative from Amazon.
For a laid-back and playful style, we tied cotton napkins in a knot and positioned them to the side. Although the placemats and napkins shown are no longer in stock, we recommend these stunning linens and placemats from Target that capture a rustic yet elegant aesthetic. To keep things simple, I incorporated natural elements such as Hydrangeas and herbs from around the house and garden. We placed them in small jam jars for a rustic, fresh feel. I used silver dishes to hold fruit and nuts. I absolutely love silver dishes.. it's luster and the feeling it evokes. The silver dishes we used were collected over time from antique stores, but I'm also adding some beautiful options from Amazon.
Lastly, to set the mood, candlesticks were essential for creating a cozy ambiance. We chose flameless candlesticks to avoid them being blown out by the wind. Additionally, string lights provide the perfect touch.
In case the temperature drops or guests want to snuggle up, have a few cozy blankets or throws available. This adds a touch of comfort and encourages everyone to linger outdoors for longer.
Last but certainly not least the menu! As I mentioned earlier, this was a bit impromptu so we kept things simple and light. All you need are a couple cheeses, fresh fruits, smoked meats if you like, and bread of your choice.
For your gathering, you can consider adding a fall-inspired salad or soup to your menu. I prepared a gluten-free beer bread, which we served with a platter of fresh fruits, cheese, roasted almonds, and fig jam. Additionally, we also offered a delicious Italian soup that happens to be one of my favorites. Fall is the perfect time to serve heartwarming soups, so consider adding one of your favorites to your menu.
